Vocal Motion Show Choir is where North Weber County kids find their voice. Founded and directed by Brittany Bennett, this beloved youth program brings together singing, choreography, and live performance in a way that builds confidence as much as it builds talent. From the moment a new student walks into rehearsal, the goal is simple: help them discover what they’re capable of, give them a stage to share it, and surround them with friends who cheer them on. The mission, in Brittany’s own words, is to help children find their voice within so they can share it with others to uplift and inspire.

A Program Built Around Every Age and Skill Level

Vocal Motion welcomes students ages 6 through 18 and places each one in the right company based on age, ability, and experience. There are three groups: Youth Co. for the youngest performers, Junior Co. for those ready for more, and Senior Co. for the older, more experienced students. Auditions are simple and stress-free: prospective students submit a 60-second video of themselves singing part of a favorite song, and the directors handle placement from there. No prior show choir experience is required, just a love of music and a willingness to try.

This tiered approach is one of the things parents appreciate most. A six-year-old who has never sung in front of anyone gets the same encouraging environment as a high schooler chasing musical theater dreams, and each company is taught at a level that challenges without overwhelming.

Tuesday Rehearsals in Farr West

Classes meet every Tuesday evening in the choir room at Wahlquist Junior High in Farr West, a central location that’s easy to reach from anywhere in North Weber County. Youth Co. starts at 4:00 PM, Junior Co. at 5:00 PM, and Senior Co. at 6:30 PM, with the schedule designed so siblings in different companies can come and go without parents making multiple trips. The season runs September through May with a summer break from June through August, picking back up the Tuesday after Labor Day.

The Wahlquist choir room is a comfortable, familiar space for kids, purpose-built for music and big enough for the choreography that Vocal Motion is known for. Music Videos, Live Concerts, and Real Performance Experience

Every student records a music video each semester and performs in a live concert, which means real stage time and real video work from day one. Recent productions include country medleys, pop anthems, and themed numbers like “Could Have Been Me,” “God Only Knows,” and a K-Pop Demon Hunters routine, the kind of variety that keeps kids engaged and gives them a portfolio of performances to look back on for years.

Registration includes everything a student needs to participate: a music binder, a personalized Vocal Motion shirt, professional headshots, a company photo, and concert pictures. Directors Who Know Music and Know Kids

Brittany Bennett brings serious music credentials to the program. A former Miss Utah contestant and longtime piano and voice teacher, she pursued a degree in Music Education at the College of Eastern Utah on a music scholarship as a percussionist and choir member. She spent four years with the Bells on Temple Square and was a percussionist with the Orchestra at Temple Square during the 2002 Winter Olympics. Before founding Vocal Motion, she directed Performance Academy in North Ogden from 2015 to 2020, building the kind of experience that now shapes every Vocal Motion rehearsal.

Brittany is joined by two assistant directors who bring their own depth. Rebecca Neslen, a BYU Women’s Choir alum based in Pleasant View, officially joined as Assistant Director in January 2024 after years of involvement with the program. She also works as an American Sign Language interpreter. Troy Wilson is a Music Education major at the University of Utah and the current music director at Heritage Theatre in Perry, with experience across multiple Utah theater productions. Together, the team gives students access to vocal, instrumental, and theatrical expertise that very few youth programs can match.

More Than a Choir: A Community for Weber County Families

Talk to any Vocal Motion family and you’ll hear the same thing: the friendships matter as much as the performances. Kids who walk in shy on the first Tuesday of September are belting choruses by November and trading silly inside jokes with new friends by spring.
